's go back to the desk. >> a newly approved policing plan in oakland. shortly after 2:00 this morning, city council took a vote to help reduce crime. alex savage has more on why there is so much opposition to this plan, alex? >> reporter: they approved the consulting deal with bill bratton and many are upset about the chief's hiring and they believe his policies may lead to racial profiling and the vote that happened this morning did not sit well with many. >> 7 yeses and 1 no. >> boo, boo, boo... >> reporter: we had the only camera in council chambers once the vote came down and there were about 275 people who spoke and it was an overflow crowd. they eventually approved a contract for bratton on a 7-1 vote. he will develop a crime fighting plan in oakland but critics are concerned about his past work as some say it could lead to racial profiling. >> what he did he elsewhere which may have worked does not mean it will work here. >> reporter: but the man who once headed up the police departments have had success in improving community relations in those cities. they told council that b

to the desk. >>> a manhunt in oakland for two suspects who shot and wounded a police officer. s.w.a.t. teams are on the scene where the shooting happened shortly before 6:30. ktvu channel 2 morning news alex savage is at the scene and tells us what led up to the shooting. >> reporter: these men apparently confronted an undercover police officer and one of them opened fire on that officer. they continue to search for those two other armed men who escaped and as you can see the neighborhood remains closed. the s.w.a.t. team is out here still but we do get the since the search is winding down in this area. crime scene technicians right now are collecting evidence, taking photos of this scene where last night's shooting took place. the situation began when an undercover officer was shot and wounded during a stake out operation. throughout the night officers had guns drawn, doing a thorough search for those two wanted men. four square blocks do remain locked down and right away police were able to take one of the men into custody but the other two escaped. and last night the chief talked about ho

coming through berkeley and out to the oakland area and when you get to the toll plaza it is not busy just yet and everything looks good on 101 coming to the downtown area. let's go back to the desk. >>> a search continues for a san francisco man accused of dousing his girlfriend with gasoline and setting her on fire. alex savage has more in san francisco with what family members are saying about this attack, good morning, alex. >> reporter: they say it was an argument about laundry which prompted the attack. the victim in this case is a mother of three and remains hospitalized with severe burns to her face and chest. police are still searching for that woman's boyfriend and they want you to watch for dexter oliver. he is wanted for this attack.  he is still on the run according to the police i spoke to a time ago. it happened in the bay view district and police say oliver used gas from one of the cancers at the couple's homes and he put it into a can and doused her girlfriend and set her on fire. relatives say the victim is 25- year-old star lamar. her sister said the couple did fi

between walnut creek and oakland, so far so good. also this morning we're looking at northbound 101 in san francisco. that looks good approaching the 80 split. let's go back to the desk. >>> we're following developing news out of san jose where a fire started at a cannibus club. janine de la vega was the first reporter of the scene, what can you tell us about the investigation at this point. >> reporter: the fire is out and it was relatively small but firefighters think this could have been intentionally set. now, an employee told me that the security company that monitors this cannibu called and said the motion detectors in the building had gone off and a fire had broken out. firefighters were called to the phc club on sanker road this morning at 4:20 and saw flames in the building. a side window was broken when they arrived. firefighters had to force entry to the building to get inside and fight the fire. the sprinkler system was triggered which helped keep it small and it was knocked down in about 20 minutes. >> there was potentially a broken window. we have an odor of gasoline, and the
